Dr. Larry Lemak’s Road to Recovery | Lemak Health

October 16, 2012:
Dr. Larry Lemak has recently been diagnosed with carcinoma of the tongue, a form of cancer which is the 7th most common form of cancer among men in the United States. Other individuals who have had this disease are the actor Michael Douglas, Heisman Trophy winner Pat Sullivan, and Professional Golfer Hubert Green.
He has been fortunate to have been blessed with excellent health, and we are thankful he went in for a routine checkup where this was discovered.
This tumor was caught very early, and we have state-of-the-art medical facilities that are available to him in Birmingham at UAB. Dr. Lemak is fortunate to have a wife and family who will be involved as he goes through treatment. Dr. Lemak has colleagues working with him who will be able to support the continual care of his patients while he is recovering, and friends who have offered their overwhelming support and prayers. As he goes through treatment in the next 7 to 8 weeks, he will be focused on 3 things (1) Trusting in the Lord and the power of prayers, (2) Getting well with the help and support of his family, and (3) Keeping his faith and spirits high so he can recover and continue working in a profession he loves.
Periodic updates will be provided on the practice Facebook account Lemak Sports Medicine & Orthopedics
"Thank you all for your words of encouragement and support."

Today starts the road to recovery. Dr. Lemak experienced his first treatment today at UAB and was fortunate to have his wife Georgine along for support. While two rounds of chemotherapy and radiation don’t sound appealing to most people, Dr. Lemak is excited to begin his journey of the healing process. He looks forward to being able to watch football this weekend and returning to a normal schedule on Monday. He can’t thank everyone enough for the thoughts, notes, comments, and prayers!

"The third week of treatments almost done, and I must say I’m feeling much better than I expected at this point! Clearly on the road to recovery!"
Treatments will be over the first week in December, and between that, the holidays, and a new grandchild sometime between then and the end of the year, I have a lot to be thankful for and look forward to!
Thanks again to all the friends, family, and colleagues for the thoughts and prayers, they have been incredibly helpful!
