Musculoskeletal diseases affect more than half (54%) of the American population and are the most common cause of severe long-term pain and physical disability worldwide. These conditions include back pain, arthritis, trauma, osteoporosis, spinal deformity, and childhood diseases that often lead to decreased productivity and quality of life.

Bone and Joint Action Week highlights the importance of musculoskeletal health and the need to effectively prevent and manage conditions which affect it. This year Bone and Joint Action Week is October 12th through October 20th and the theme is “Musculoskeletal Health to Stay in Work”. This year’s theme hopes to increase awareness of the importance of musculoskeletal health to enable people to stay in work, be independent and enjoy pain-free lifestyles.

Five days throughout the week are dedicated to highlighting major rheumatic and musculoskeletal conditions.

October 16th is World Spine Day

October 17th is World Trauma Day

October 19th is World Pediatric Bone & Joint Day<

October 20th is World Osteoporosis Day
