Survey: 55% of Consumers want to Connect with Doctors online
Lemak Sports Medicine & Orthopedics launches new social network to connect community and experts around health, recovery and wellness
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (9/11/09) – Lemak Sports Medicine & Orthopedics announced today a social network that connects peers and experts around topics of health, wellness, athletics, recovery and fitness. Launched on 9/9/2009, the social website hosts a community driven blog and multimedia content.
“LemakHealth.com was created for anyone seeking interaction with health experts and others with similar experiences,” says Zackery Moore. Moore is a social media strategist who led the team that created LemakHealth.com. “When we started on the project, I had a close friend in mind that had total knee replacement three years ago. He had a hard time connecting with his doctor or anyone else going through a similar experience.”
A survey conducted this year by Deloitte Center for Health Solutions showed that 55 percent of consumers want to communicate with their physicians via e-mail.
LemakHealth.com takes that a step further by making the staff of Lemak Sports Medicine and Orthopedics accessible to their patients in an online community. LemakHealth.com is for more than just the Lemak practice’s patient.

The four main categories on LemakHealth.com are Health and Wellness, Athletics, Injuries and Recovery and Fitness. Each category has a list of subcategories. Forums and customizable groups add another layer to users’ experiences. Users are separated into two groups: Experts and Members. All users can contribute to the LemakHealth.com blog, but Experts’ blog posts are featured on the site’s main page. To become an Expert on the site, a user must be invited to the Experts group. LemakHealth.com uses BuddyPress, a suite of plug-ins and themes for the popular blogging tool WordPress MU.
